Brands and mannequins

Why do all brands hire thin mannequins for their show? The story began after the first war in France, when women began to look like a guy with their haircut and wearing pants to go to work. Fashion designers began to draw mannequins but like a guy or a child: without form. The young and thin model was born. We are in a society which loves the slimness cult and mannequins begin and continue to be more and more thin. The clients at the end, don’t like that king of slimness and don’t recognize themselves in the collection.

Some brands began to work with mannequins who are not skinny but with women who wear the size 40 or 42 like Calvin Klein with the mannequin Myla Dalbesio. But the clients are not glad. For them, or this one is not very heavy or that one is too fat. In any case, the clients will not be pleased. It is for this reason brands choose mannequins and not the customer. At the end, brands prefer the thin women than pulpy women for their show.

The modeling and the anorexia

A lot of people talks about the anorexia for the mannequins but all mannequins are not anorexic. The anorexia in the fashion world is not the consequence but the cause.

In fact, this illness is an eating disorders because the person has familial problems for example; but this kind of illness is detected generally when the girl is 15. It is because the person is ill and doesn’t want to eat that this one begins to be thin. The brands who are interested by skinny mannequins, hire these kind of ill girls. That is why there is a lot of skinny mannequins in the fashion world.

The problem is this king of attraction for thin girls drives them to be more and more thin and also for persons who are not anorexic. Moreover, those ones can begin depressive or have big health problems.

The modeling and the legislation

In the health law, the national assembly insert the law by Olivier Véran who is against the anorexia. In this text, the mannequins have to get a Body Mass Index more than 18. For example, a woman who weighs 55 kg for 1,75 m, has a good BMI and she can be mannequin. For the companies who don’t respect this law, they risk 6months of imprisonment and a fine of 75 000 euros.

Moreover, this one wrote also about the fact that is forbidden to encourage the slim cult or anorexia in Internet or in another support.
